Neural Pattern Leadership© and the “Leadership Laboratory”

One crucial element that leaders often miss in how they teach leadership (and counter-intuitively it is worse the better the leader you are!) is this:  you are often unconsciously intimidating to a lot of your subordinates. 
 
They see you perform week in and week out; they see you perform under pressure.  And yet, they can’t see themselves as you.  They don’t see themselves as smooth, they don’t hear themselves saying the right thing, and they don’t feel special.
 
And oftentimes, you are part of that problem.  You encourage them, but you encourage them from YOUR Model of the World.  You exhort them, you even believe in them, but they have different strengths and challenges than you.  So how do you get them to extend their potential more quickly, more deeply, and more consciously?
 

It may be time to build a “Leadership Laboratory!”  Here are some key characteristics to get your creative juices flowing: 

  1. It is safe to practice different behaviors, patterns, and tools.
  2. There is non-threatening feedback used to educate and not grade or judge them.
  3. There are a variety of teaching methods. 
  4. There are a variety of different tools for their use.
  5. There are abundant case studies for them to learn without experiencing failure.
  6. It is broad and inclusive; it is not select and exclusive.

If you don’t have one set up, please think through the ramifications.  Where does this practice take place today?  Generally, it is in real life business models, and thus, experimentation is very slow and incremental for most. It is designed to “not lose,” it is not designed to win – to win BIG – to win RAPIDLY.
