Climb YOUR Greatest Trapeze to find the Greatest YOU!
This is a bit longer and… bear with it. It has a meaningful ending and Great Question for you to answer at the end!
I searched long and hard for the perfect metaphor for what “Great” FEELS like. I know many of you can “think Great,” but so many are designed to “feel” less powerful feelings associated with it. The circumstances you find yourself in will force the feeling: the thrilling job you have taken, or the tough new team that you now lead. But wouldn’t it be great if you could force the feeling to FORCE ASSOCIATED BRAIN CHEMICAL STORMS aligned with Greatness?? Yes, think and feel and train here! It will serve you when you get there.
The metaphor is a trapeze. And think about it – in that TV show Circus of the Stars, they did different things, but the most thrilling always was the trapeze act because that’s one of the scariest, most difficult acts. And they had their safety belts on, and their safety nets out, and they’re 40 feet off the ground, and it’s kind of breathtaking, and they gave you camera angles. And so the handsome star… or the beautiful starlet… is leaping out and falling and everybody goes “OH!” – they gasp. We know what the Circus of the Stars looks like to do a trapeze act.
But here’s why this is a powerful metaphor for real life in the Greatest Version of You (GVOY.) Imagine this: you’re going to do a trapeze, and the first thing that’s going to happen, is that you’re going to climb a tower to the absolute tallest platform that you can stand. No 40 feet here! And for some of you though, who hate heights, it might be less than 40’- it could be 8 ft. off the ground! And for some of you, the platform is on an infinite tower, it goes through the clouds! You might climb hundreds of feet… or thousands of feet… it doesn’t matter. You climb. The point is ,you climb to the tallest platform that YOU can stand, and then you must go one more platform. And oh man, it’s clutching in your stomach now, your knees are weak. You’ve gone to a height that absolutely terrifies you…
now, the next thing in this metaphor that happens, is that you’ve got to remove the safety net. There can be no safety net. The Greatest Version of You may be afraid of the fall, and if you are one platform beyond your comfort zone, you will… but you’re not going to want protection (it’s the law! The GVOY only happens when you are at your outer limit.. no safety here!)
And the third thing that happens, the big burly catcher that’s swinging over there on the distant trapeze, he can’t be there either. Because, what if you fall because of him? This is the Greatest Version of You – it’s not the Greatest Version of His Catch. If he slips, or if his hands are sweaty, or he’s thinking about his grocery list, if he drops you, it’s not the Greatest Version of You. So the Greatest Version of you has done three things, and now, you need to do the final and fourth thing.
So let’s review. You’ve climbed the tower; you’ve gone to the highest platform you can stand, and you went one more. Next, you took out the safety net, and the third thing you did was you took out the burly catcher, the big guy over there that’s going to catch you. He’s gone too. So now, as you’re on this platform, at a height you can’t stand, ready to swing back and forth and launch yourself into the abyss, you have to do something really challenging. You have to remove the trapeze on the other side as well. And think about it. You know this, intuitively, you already know this. The thinking and feelings and programs and actions… the model of who you are today, where you are on this side of life, you don’t have the thoughts yet, the feelings yet of the Greatest Version of You. You can vision it, you can look to a future from this perch, but to really absorb and think future thoughts, and be the future person, to be the Greatest Version of You on the other side of the abyss, there can’t be a trapeze there because in this place, you don’t even have the ability to see it, or understand it. You have to have the leap of faith. You must go the full distance!
And when you get there, the Greatest Version of You, always knows the trapeze will appear. And when it appears over there, you are over there too. You are in the new place, you are the new person. You are thinking new thoughts, having new feelings, doing new actions that took you to get there… And so now, as the Greatest Version of You… We talked about the Old You, we talked about the New You. You have now done something more terrifying in your business model, in your relationship, with your spouse or someone you want to love, than you ever thought possible. And when you command yourself in this state, in this sequence, the trapeze always appears. Because even if it doesn’t – if there’s something that goes wrong, or you need a lesson – you may be Picabo Street, you may be in for a big fall. But nothing bad or nothing drastic, or no outcome will ever be too terrible, that you cannot get back on that tower, reacquire the platform and realize “Hey, I survived that fall. I might even go a few platforms more now.”
The Greatest Version of You, launched into this space, will always find its natural place, always find its natural resting place. You will always find your natural home, your place in the universe on the other side of the abyss. You just have to have the knowledge, the certainty, the ability, the truth – the Greatest Version of You will know this – to leap, to take a leap of faith, to soar where nobody else can tell you, or nothing else waits for you but your Greatness. And when you do that, you are the Greatest Version of You!
So, here’s your Great Question: what tower do you need to be humping up today, terrified, to take what leap? What does this look like and FEEL like to you??
